Reflect and Reset
At Willows Rise we believe that every student has the ability to learn from their actions and grow in a positive direction. The reflect and reset process is designed to support students in understanding their behaviour, to take responsibility and create positive changes moving forward.
What is Reflect and Reset?
Reflect and reset is a supportive approach that encourages students to pause and think about their actions and reset their behaviour in a positive way. It provides an opportunity for students to reflect on their choices, identify areas for improvement and set goals to move forward.
Why is it important?

-
Promotes self-awareness
-
Encourages responsibility
-
Fosters positive change
-
Supports emotional growth
Key principles of Reflect and Reset

-
Non-punitive: this approach is about understanding, learning and growth rather than punishment
-
Student-centred: the student plays an active role in identifying solutions and setting their own goals
-
Strength based: we focus on the students strengths and how they can use them to overcome challenges
-
Ongoing support: Reflect and Reset is a continuous process, offering ongoing guidance and encouragement to help students achieve their best.

At Willows Rise the Reflect and Reset process is an integral part of how we support our students in making positive behaviour choices. By taking time to reflect, reset and set clear goals, we empower our students to take control of their actions and work towards their personal growth and success .
How does Reflect and Reset work?
The process begins with the student reflecting on the situation where their behaviour was not aligned with school expectations. This reflection includes;

-
Identifying the behaviour: what happened? What choices did I make?
-
Understanding the impact: how did my actions affect others? How did it affect me?

Exploring triggers: what led me to behave this way?
Step 1
REFELECTION
Step 2
DISCUSSION
A trusted member of staff will begin by guiding the conversation, offering a calm and non-judgemental space, via our Willows Wellness corner, for the student to talk openly.

-
The focus is on understanding, not punishment.
-
The student is encouraged to express their thoughts and feelings
-
The staff member will listen, ask guiding questions and support the student in recognising how they can make positive changes.
Step 3
RESET AND GOAL SETTING
After reflecting and discussing behaviour, the student works with staff to ‘Reset’ their approach:

-
Setting a positive goal: what will I do better next time?
-
Creating a personal action plan
-
Choosing support: what support or strategies are needed e.g. mindfulness, sensory etc
Step 4
FOLLOW UP AND SUPPORT
The Reflect and Reset process doesn't end with discussion - it is followed by ongoing support:

-
Regular check-ins: review progress and celebrate improvements
-
Additional strategies: if needed to help stay focused on their goal
-
Positive reinforcement: for improved behaviour and meeting goals
